What Is WonderCafe?

Created by the people of The United Church of Canada, the WonderCafe.ca website is a place for Canadians to explore their spirituality on their own terms, in a relevant, open-minded way.

At WonderCafe people can discover exactly what they've been telling us would lessen their deep fears and suspicions of organized religion. It's a place where their voice can be heard and their opinions matter. It's a way to introduce people to the United Church in a way that is less intimidating to them.

WonderCafe.ca empowers people to:

  • Join together in online discussion groups to discuss, debate, and learn about the spiritual and moral issues that are important to them.
  • Read guest editorials on current events and issues, and offer their thoughts on these pieces.
  • Have their own "table" at the online cafe, where they can post a personal profile, exchange "wonder mails" with each other and post new topics of discussion
  • Find the church closest to them through several resources, including:
  • "Church Search," the easy-to-use way to find The United Church of Canada congregation nearest you;
  • Church profile pages, featuring a short introduction to your church and a list of upcoming events;
  • A link to the official United Church of Canada website.

WonderCafe can help people see their neighbourhood United Church as a place that's a lot more relevant and contemporary than the old impressions may suggest--not only is technically relevant to their lifestyle, but it's also spiritually relevant.

Our research shows that these Canadians want to engage in spiritual exploration and fulfillment, but want to begin that journey on their own pressure-free terms. They believe in God and spirituality, but aren't quite ready to march into a church to celebrate those beliefs. They yearn for an alternative way to begin their spiritual journey. WonderCafe provides that alternative.
