Posted November 1st, 2007 by AMGHaving an eye for the "free information" a visitor is providing can often get us past the moment of awkward silence and open new pathways for friendly conversation.
Free information helps us make the personal connections which are frequently the first step in a newcomer's journey toward finding a sense of belonging.
But if that newcomer has a skin colour that is not "White" and we try to start a conversation on the assumption that this fact is a piece of free information, the visitor to our church will likely end up feeling even more like an outsider than before.
