Mennonite Transformation
There are now half a dozen Mennonite congregations here in Montreal. Eight years ago there were none. What has happened that this once inward looking, traditional Church has suddenly started Church planting? They've discovered Missional thinking. Our UCC head office types have been using Missional Thinking for years. David Bosch's book "Transforming Mission" has been on several of our seminary curriculums. The UCC wants more congregations to be involved in mission. But what does this mean for your average congregation? Instead of seeing mission as something we do to someone else in another country, we are to learn that our congregation is the mission of God in our community. We are to be the missionaries. I'm interested to hear if you've had any experience with this. The writings of Brian McLaren are definitely in the Missional field. Here's a link to a video which explains why there are so many new Mennonite congregations in your city as well. http://www.allelon.org/articles/article.cfm?id=404
