Emerging Spirit Questionnaires
Posted November 21st, 2007 by AMGThese Emerging Spirit questionnaires were used at the beginning of the campaign to gauge some of the attitudes and experience that people of all ages have about The United Church of Canada.
There are three surveys included in this resource, each prepared for a specific audience:
- Questions for people of all ages already attending a United Church congregation.
- Questions for those between the ages of 30-45 who already attend a United Church congregation.
- Questions for those between the ages of 30-45 who are NOT already part of a faith community.
The responses to the questionnaire can help us better understand where we are in relation to each other and where we may need to do more work to build a relationship.

ES Tools - Becoming an Intercultural Church 1.1: Why Skin Colour is a Perilous Conversation Starter
Posted November 1st, 2007 by AMGHaving an eye for the "free information" a visitor is providing can often get us past the moment of awkward silence and open new pathways for friendly conversation.
Free information helps us make the personal connections which are frequently the first step in a newcomer's journey toward finding a sense of belonging.
But if that newcomer has a skin colour that is not "White" and we try to start a conversation on the assumption that this fact is a piece of free information, the visitor to our church will likely end up feeling even more like an outsider than before.
This helpful download will help your welcoming team and congregation become more aware of the dynamics of race in the ministry of hospitality.

ES Tools: Congregational Assessment 1.1 - Mission & Identity
Posted September 17th, 2007 by AMGThis congregational assessment resource offers an approach to discovering and articulating your congregational identity and mission. With respect to Emerging Spirit, the need for a clear picture of congregational identity and vitality is critical. In order to reach out, initiate conversations, and form relationships with people not currently involved in our churches, each congregation needs to be able to say, "This is who we are, this is what we're about and this is how we are living it out!"
